At the Asian Surfing Championships 2024, which took place on Sunday in Thulusdhoo, Maldives, India was able to secure a silver medal in the Maruhaba Cup, which is a team competition.

Japan scored 58.40 points, which was significantly higher than India’s score of 24.13 points, which was the final score. As a result, Japan was awarded the gold medal by a significant margin.

Taiwan, China, and China came in third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 23.93 and 22.10 respectively.

The Indian team, which included Sanjay Selvamani, Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, and Srikanth D, had already achieved the highest possible score of 32.16 in the Heat 2 semi-final. This result earned them the first place position.

Over the course of the same semi-final, the Republic of Korea finished in third place with a score of 27.74, while Chinese Taipei came in second place with a team score of 29.70.

The medal was awarded to India on the same day that they secured their very first quota in surfing for the Asian Games, which took place on Saturday.

It has been decided that the Indian men’s and women’s surfing teams would compete at the Asian Games 2026, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, which is located in Japan.

At the Asian Surfing Championships, Harish Muthu also made a significant impact on the competition. He made history by becoming the first Indian to get all the way to the quarterfinals, but he was ultimately unsuccessful in a fiercely contested match.
