My home food garden gives me a lot of choices but not enough room. However, I have meticulously planned my story for this coming fall.
There are mostly flower beds in my yard, with a few hardy herbs and perennial veggies tucked in among the flowers. A large raised bed, pots, and grow bags are where I grow most of my vegetables.
I have already chosen my fall crops so I can start planting them as soon as possible, even though my summer veggies are still being picked. Growing cool-weather plants that can handle the cold in the fall is a great idea.
Some vegetable garden ideas, like square-foot planting, have helped me figure out how to make the most of every inch. I am going to add at least one backyard planter this year to make more room for growing, though.
1.Root Vegetables
Root veggies are the best when it comes to taste and versatility. Growing colorful kinds that make a salad look nice or get sweet when roasted is something I love to do.
The only bad thing about them is that they are buried, so I need to have more faith and patience while I wait for them to grow.
2.Leafy Greens
Lots of leafy greens are good for you and usually do better when it’s cooler outside. When I can, I like to gather them as “cut-and-come-again” crops, which means I pick new leaves every couple of days.
3.Aromatic Herbs
An important part of my home garden is the herbs. They help me a lot in the fall, when I start making soups, casseroles, and roast dinners. In the yard, I like to grow low-maintenance shrubs like rosemary, mint, and sage.
On the kitchen windowsill, I grow basil, cilantro, and parsley, which don’t last long. But I want to grow some more things in the yard.
4.Tools And Accessories
Before I started growing my own food, I tried to save money on things I didn’t need because I didn’t know what I really needed.
But I’ve learned that it’s better to spend money on high-quality designs that can do more than one thing and will last for years. Only a few farming tools are really necessary, so spend as much as you can on the best ones.
5.Vegetable Planters
I’m always looking for new ways to make more room for plants, and this fall I’m going to buy a new backyard planter. I’ve added these three patterns to my wish list.
