New Zealand announced on Monday that they will be playing a powerful squad that features five spin bowling options for the one-off test match against Afghanistan that will take place the following month, as well as the two-match rubber match that will follow against Sri Lanka. Both of these matches will take place in the following month. This announcement was issued in order to be ready for the month that is about to begin.
On Monday, New Zealand announced their powerful playing eleven for the one-off Test against Afghanistan and the subsequent two-match encounter against Sri Lanka, which has five spin bowling options.
The two ICC World Test Championship matches
- the Black Caps will begin on September 18 and 26, respectively, in Sri Lanka, while the one-off Test against Afghanistan will take place in Greater Noida, India, from September 9–13.
- The team, which also includes Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and others, will be captained by veteran pacer Tim Southee, with vice-captain Tom Latham.
- But head coach Gary Stead made a suggestion that the captain might also have to miss a game or two if circumstances demand a different balance.
“Test tours to the sub-continent can ask some really tough questions of pace bowlers due to the nature of the pitches and the heat and humidity,” Stead stated.”We are aware that all of our bowling options might be required across the various Tests, even though we are keeping an open mind regarding the conditions.
He continued, “Tim and I have talked about this, and the necessity of balancing the workloads of the pace bowlers, including himself, during these overseas tours to ensure the team is best served.All-round spin bowler Michael Bracewell made his squad debut for the first time in eighteen months following an Achilles injury that kept him out of action until February when he broke his finger.
- Along with left-armers Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, and part-timers Glenn Phillips and Ravindra, Bracewell will handle the spin responsibilities.
- “Michael had to show plenty of resilience to rehabilitate from his injuries and force his way back into the BLACKCAPS across all three formats,” Stead stated.
- “His all-round skills, and ability to take the ball away from the left-hander make him a great asset, especially on what we expect will be turning wickets in India and Sri Lanka,” he stated.
Ben Sears and Will O’Rourke of the Pacers have received their first foreign Test call-ups as a reward. Before a groin injury kept him out of the second Test against Australia, the 23-year-old O’Rourke amassed 11 wickets in his first two Test matches, including the greatest match figures by a New Zealander on his Test debut (nine for 93 against South Africa in February).
