Paris 2024: Team USA highlights and most memorable moments from record-breaking Olympic campaign
The United States of America broke their own record for the most hardware ever won in a non-boycotted Olympic Summer Games by winning a total of 126 medals in the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games. This accomplishment allowed them to top the medal charts for the fourth consecutive Olympic Summer Games.
There were forty gold medals, and the women of Team USA brought home more than half of the total number of medals.
Over the course of the sixteen days of competition, the United States of America set an astounding six world records. One of these records was set by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the final of the 400-meter hurdles event, where she broke her own record for the sixth time in a row.
With five medals each, swimmers Torri Huske and Regan Smith left Paris as the most decorated American athletes of the Games. Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas each won an astonishing three gold medals, making them the American athletes with the most medals combined.
It is currently equal to the second most decorated female gymnast in the history of the Olympic Games, with Biles having won seven gold medals out of a total of eleven medals.
The swimmer Katie Ledecky established herself as the most decorated female athlete in the history of the United States of America by winning four Olympic medals in Paris, bringing her total to fourteen.

In the 800-meter freestyle and men’s skeet events, respectively, Ledecky and sport shooter Vincent Hancock accomplished the feat of becoming the fifth and sixth American athletes to ever win four Olympic gold medals in the same competition. This accomplishment was accomplished on August 3rd.
Team USA also performed exceptionally well in a variety of team sports. The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) won the gold medal in soccer for the first time in twelve years, and the women’s rugby sevens team won bronze for the first time in the history of the United States.
