The country’s first hydrogen train will arrive soon, know its design, power, cost and how much better it is than other trains :- The name for the train that runs on hydrogen is “hydrogen train.”

Heritage lines are the only ones where hydrogen trains will go. This is so that these paths don’t get dirty.

There is a good chance that the country’s first hydrogen train will run this year. There will be 50 of these trains on the tracks over the next 23 years.

New Delhi: In 1712, Newcomen built the first steam engine that made money for a business after James Watt found the power of steam. The first train in the world ran in South Wales, Britain, in 1807.

After going through steam, coal, oil, and electricity, this change in trains has hit hydrogen fuel. Indian tracks will soon also have trains that run on hydrogen.

Tell us what these hydrogen trains will be like, what we already know about them, and how they will really improve your trip.

What is a hydrogen train?

A hydrogen train is a type of train that runs on hydrogen. Pollutants like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and particulate matter are not given off by this train.

How is energy obtained

Diesel engines are not used in hydrogen trains; instead, hydrogen fuel cells are used. Generators that use hydrogen and oxygen to make power are called hydrogen fuel cells. The train runs on this energy. Hydrogen trains make very little noise and use clean energy.

What hydrogen trains look like

There is still no information available about how India’s hydrogen trains will be built. Accelera gave a report on the first hydrogen train running in North America.

The report said that hydrogen trains will look like diesel power trains from the bottom, but have a totally different roof.

There are “green” rail packages on the roof. They are called iLint Fuel Cell Composition (FCC). A fuel cell composition is made up of 6 fuel cell power generator units together.

It also has software, an electric link, an output regulator, cooling, and ventilation. These all work together to give the train 215 kilowatts of electricity, which moves it forward.

Savings of crores and less emissions too

The Center for Study Science, Technology, and Policy talked about the pros and cons of using hydrogen to lower the carbon footprint of Indian Railways in 2023.

Diesel trains, electric lines, battery trains, and hydrogen trains were all put up against each other for paths like the Kalka-Shimla route.

It was found that over the course of their lives, hydrogen trains save between Rs 18 and Rs 33 crore. According to the story, it costs a lot to make hydrogen trains.

However, in 30 years, fuel worth crores will have been saved because hydrogen is so cheap. On the other hand, hydrogen trains put out 892 tonnes less CO2.

Challenge

Hydrogen is a gas that can and does explode. When trains use hydrogen, they will need to be built and run with extra safety measures in mind.
